Operating Hours

The trail is open on Saturdays, Sundays, and most public holidays. Weekday hikes for groups can be done by special prior arrangement. Main gate opens at 7am and closes at 9:30am for security reasons (after this, the security guard and vehicle sensor will allow cars out). Please arrive on time for your booking slot. Then you are free to enjoy the hike as long as you wish until 3:30pm when the facilities close.  Outside of these times, the gates are closed for security.

What to bring

This is a hiking trail, not a casual stroll. Wear comfortable hiking shoes, bring sun protection, and pack enough water—especially during the hot summer months.

Water

Bring at least 1.5 liters of water per person!!

Safety

There is a mandatory briefing before the hike, and after the last briefing at 9am, the main entrance is locked to enhance vehicle security. The trail is well-marked and maintained for safety.

Fee per adult: R60 Cash / R65 Card
Fee per under 12 years old: R30 Cash / R35 Card.
All fees are only payable at the venue on the day.

Are pet allowed?

No, the trail is not pet/dog-friendly due to wildlife and natural predators like jackal and other prey animals, and multiple private farms along the route.

Food and Facilities

There are clean bathrooms and a restaurant (The Rusty Feather). A braai facility is available via booking.

What are the different hiking routes available at Harties River Hiking Trail?

There are three routes available: a 6km easy route, an 8km intermediate route, and a 10km intermediate route.
